From Christmas card ideas to fictitious gangs, these are a few illustrations and posters that I have designed for fun.
Commonplace Books
Upon his untimely death, H.P. Lovecraft, the early-twentieth century master of weird fiction, left behind descriptions of 221 unwritten stories. These stories were compiled into this book, the design of which needed to carry Lovecraftian characteristics, including the horror, science fiction, and all around strangeness for which he was known. I developed the cover design, bookmarks, as well as partial web design, and worked closely with the editors to tackle the page templates. To order a copy or read more on The Commonplace Book of H.P. Lovecraft, go to www.commonplacebooks.com.
The Parlimont
The Parlimont Hotel and Casino, inspired by vintage Las Vegas, 1950s typography, and scotch on the rocks, is an exercise in illustration and typography. As a throwback to a romanticized era, the Parlimont reflects the Las Vegas ideal—a regal celebration of youthful America. These illustrations capture the Parlimont’s attitude in the hotel’s custom logotype, house cards, dice, and roulette table, and hotel marquee and its two rotating signs.
AIGA: Downgrade
I was real excited to see my new AIGA membership card had arrived in the mail. I got that envelope inside and ripped the top open, hoping to have a new and improved card to replace my old one. Let me tell you, that tiny slab of plastic went from Bentley to Yugo, Visa’s Black card to Walmart rewards card. And I could have sworn I heard those out of tune horns of disappointment going off in the back of my head as I glanced over it. Sorely disappointed, just look at the thing.
Update! HUMAIN: Non-Profit Supporting Haitian Earthquake Relief
The HUMAIN logo was developed to address the overwhelming number of responses to the tragic Haitian earthquake, those looking to lend a helping a hand. This project is not only for the Haitians but also speaks to them directly. HUMAIN is represented in Creole, a dialect of French that is Haiti's national language. The challenge, however, was to use a Creole word both apt and recognizable by English-speakers. Literally translated, humain means human, but when read in English, it acts as a homophone for humane as well. Because HUMAIN is about more than just humans—it's about treating them as such.

Optimum Nutrition, proposed redesign
Optimum Nutrition’s workout gear and nutritional supplements—including whey power, protein shakes, Creatine pills, and nutrition bars—bring novel sophistication to a market overly saturated with careless branding, resulting in easily overlooked, generic products. Optimum Nutrition stands apart with lean, legible, consumer-focused products, designed to be as sleek and toned as the user.
Update! The Complete Traveller: Antiquarian Bookstore, proposed redesign
The Complete Traveller, Antiquarian Bookstore specializes in the art of buying and selling rare vintage travel guides, maps, memoirs, and atlases from around the world, encouraging its patrons to sample and indulge in different cultures. Though an inspiring idea, the Complete Traveller unfortunately lacked a coherent brand, one that expressed the sophistication, the danger and mystery its products offered to even the most worldly of customers. This redesign includes a new identity, replete with stationary system and website, that accurately reflects the sense of ancient adventure that these books contain, waiting on shelves to unleash excitement upon the reader.
San Francisco Zoo
Designed for the San Francisco Zoo, this poster campaign shows that the Zoo is open for all holidays, including Halloween, Christmas, and Easter. The plays on positive and negative space invite the attention of not only children but also their parents.

Guerro's Carrots
Guerro’s Carrots started as a faceless yet tasty jar of pickled vegetables with only an idea for a name. Now, after combining old world flavors with new world presentation, Guerro’s offers the traditional Hispanic kitchen to an American audience in ways they’re familiar with, including a tight identity and refined presentation. These spicy carrots have the colorful attitude to match their look: bold and fiery with a hint of cheek, Guerro’s spicy carrots pair well with a light cerveza or chilled tequila—hold the lime.

DBCCO's first post. Let's start this with a party. (The robot perhaps?)
DBCCo. has been around for a while now; and I've slowly been developing my identity, and here we are today. You and I. Face to screen. The blog to end all blogs. Or just another designer's blog, lost in the sea of sites viewed only to kill a little time at work. I want to start this off with a little celebration and music. One of my all time favorite songs (number 2 in my endless list of top five songs). So here it is, a little Three Six Mafia to get the engine started and the wheels moving.
